Why Join Able & Baker?

By joining our team during the early development phase of this feature film, you will have a significant impact on the final look and feel of the project. You will work within a supportive, innovative environment that encourages artistic growth, technical experimentation, and collaborative problem-solving. We pride ourselves on creating world-class animation, and we invite you to bring your unique perspective to our studio.

Role Overview: Defining the Cinematic Language

As a 3D Layout Artist at Able & Baker, you will serve as the bridge between storyboards and the final animated frame. You will be responsible for defining the spatial relationships within a scene, establishing camera language, and blocking out the action that will eventually become the foundation for our animation department.

From “Rough” layout—where you will translate 2D storyboards into a 3D space, exploring staging, blocking, and timing—through to “Final” layout, you will ensure that every shot is cinematically polished, technically sound, and ready for production. You will be a vital creative partner in crafting the look and feel of our upcoming feature film.

What We Are Looking For

We value versatility and a strong collaborative spirit. The ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in Autodesk Maya is essential. You should be comfortable navigating complex pipelines, managing camera assets, and troubleshooting scene files.
  • Cinematic Storytelling: You possess a sophisticated eye for shot composition, lighting, and pacing. You understand how to use the camera to heighten emotional impact and narrative clarity.
  • Professional Versatility: Ability to translate 2D storyboards into dynamic 3D sequences, maintaining consistency while being open to creative iteration and exploration.
  • Animation Fundamentals: While this is a layout role, a strong understanding of animation—particularly staging and timing—is crucial for effective scene blocking.
  • Collaboration: We are looking for creative thinkers who are eager to participate in an iterative process. You should be comfortable taking direction, offering solutions, and working alongside artists from various departments to achieve the highest visual standards.
