Our Stuttgart studio sits at the heart of our European operations, offering a collaborative environment where technical rigour meets cinematic artistry.
Primary Roles & Responsibilities
The role of a CFX Artist at the Mid to Senior level requires a deep understanding of the nuance of movement. You are responsible for the secondary motions that make a character feel “real” in a digital space.
High-Fidelity Simulation: You will design and create a wide variety of realistic visual effects and simulations. This includes, but is not limited to, character cloth, hair, fur, muscle systems, skin sliding, and other complex character-related deformations.
Pipeline Integration: Ensuring the seamless integration of character effects into the overall VFX pipeline is paramount. You will work to maintain both the artistic and technical direction of the project, ensuring that CFX elements interact correctly with animation and lighting.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration: You will collaborate closely with the VFX Supervisor, the Animation Team, and Rigging departments to ensure the character’s performance is supported by your simulations.
Feedback Implementation: In a high-stakes production environment, you will revise simulations based on client and supervisor feedback in a timely and efficient manner.
Technical Troubleshooting: Utilizing your problem-solving skills, you will troubleshoot and resolve technical issues within the simulation pipeline, often working with proprietary software and industry-standard tools like Maya and Houdini.
Mentorship: As a Senior CFX Artist, you will provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a productive, collaborative, and growth-oriented work environment.
Professional Requirements
To maintain PXO’s Academy Award-winning standards, we are looking for a CFX Artist who meets the following criteria:
Industry Tenure: A minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a CFX Artist specifically within the visual effects industry, with a focus on high-end film and television projects.
Software Proficiency: Mastery of industry-standard tools is essential. This includes Maya for character work, Houdini for complex simulations, and ZBrush for sculpting corrective shapes.
Simulation Expertise: Extensive knowledge of simulation techniques for cloth (nCloth, Marvelous Designer), hair/fur (XGen, Yeti), and muscle/skin systems (Ziva Dynamics or proprietary setups).
Foundational Knowledge: A solid understanding of physics, anatomy, and motion principles. You must be able to translate real-world physical properties into visually appealing digital effects.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are vital for working effectively within a large team and across multiple departments.
Time Management: The ability to manage your time effectively, meet strict project deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic production environment.

Industry Diversity & Demographics (Global Context)
As an industry leader, Pixomondo recognizes the global landscape of the VFX workforce. Recent industry data indicates that the visual effects and animation sector has seen a steady increase in diversity over the last decade. For instance:
