Role Mission: The Bridge Between Vision and Pipeline
In 3D animation, the editor does not wait for “rushes” to arrive. You are active from the very beginning. We are looking for a Data Architect and a Narrative Master rolled into one. Your mission is to act as the central nervous system of the production, ensuring that the Director’s vision is technically feasible, organized, and perfectly timed.
You will manage the flow of data between departments, ensuring that what starts as a rough storyboard sketch successfully transitions into a polished, high-fidelity master.
Technical Requirements & Software Mastery
3 Doubles Producciones require a candidate who is not just “comfortable” with software, but who possesses a deep, clinical understanding of how different tools interact within a professional studio environment.
1. The Core Toolkit
Adobe Premiere Pro: Your primary environment for assembly and narrative exploration. We expect advanced knowledge of multi-cam sequences, proxy workflows, and efficient timeline management.
DaVinci Resolve: Mastery of Resolve is essential for the finishing stages, including color grading oversight and final mastering.
Exchange Protocols: You must be an expert in EDL (Edit Decision Lists) and XML workflows. You understand how to migrate complex timelines between Premiere and Resolve without losing metadata or sync.
2. Animation DNA
Working in animation is fundamentally different from live-action. You must have:
Animatic Experience: The ability to edit based on 2D storyboards and scratch audio to set the initial pace of the film.
Iterative Workflow: Knowledge of how to swap low-res Layout shots for updated Animation blocks, and finally, Lighting and Compositing renders.
Workflow Awareness: A basic but firm grasp of the standard 3D pipeline (Layout → Animation → Lighting → Comp). You should know how your edits affect the downstream departments.
Key Responsibilities as Video Editor
Your daily tasks will be a blend of creative decision-making and technical project management:
Sequence Assembly: Building the film’s structure from the earliest animatic stages. You will refine the “rough cut” until the timing is locked for production.
Version Management: In a large-scale 3D project, shots are updated constantly. You will be responsible for managing multiple versions of hundreds of shots, ensuring the most recent render is always in the master cut.
Inter-Departmental Data Flow: Generating and managing technical exports for other departments. You will ensure that the Compositing team and the Sound department receive perfectly synced files and accurate EDLs/XMLs.
Creative Collaboration: Working side-by-side with Directors and Supervisors. You must be able to translate their abstract narrative feedback into concrete edits that improve the film’s pacing.
Workflow Optimization: We value proactive professionals. You will be encouraged to propose ways to make the transition between Premiere and DaVinci smoother and more efficient.
Professional Soft Skills
Technical skill gets you the job, but soft skills make you an essential part of the team. We look for:
Extreme Organization: To us, a messy timeline is a sign of a messy mind. We need someone whose project files are meticulously labeled and whose workflow is a “work of art” in terms of order and clarity.
Assertive Communication: In a freelance capacity, time is of the essence. You must be able to give clear updates and provide constructive feedback on technical hurdles without hesitation.
Adaptability: The world of 3D animation is fast-paced. You must be able to pivot when creative directions change or when technical bugs arise in the pipeline.
