About Eplus Studio
Eplus Studio is where technology meets imagination. Located in Andheri East, the heartbeat of Mumbai’s media and animation industry, we pride ourselves on a culture that fosters innovation and artistic growth. We specialize in producing character-driven animation and visual effects that require a deep understanding of light, color, and shadow. Our team is a collective of passionate storytellers and technical experts who believe that the final look of a project is what truly bridges the gap between the screen and the audience.
The Role: Lighting Artist
As a Lighting Artist at Eplus Studio, you are the digital cinematographer. You are responsible for establishing the mood, atmosphere, and depth of a scene. We are looking for an artist who has a “painterly” eye—someone who understands how light interacts with different surfaces and how to use color to evoke specific emotions in the viewer.
Mid-Level Artists will be expected to take direct lead from the Art Director and Lighting Lead to execute high-quality shots, demonstrating a strong technical grasp of rendering and compositing.
Senior-Level Artists will be responsible for defining the lighting look-development for entire sequences, troubleshooting complex render issues, and mentoring mid-to-junior artists to ensure visual consistency across the production.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Atmospheric Creation: Design and implement lighting setups that define the mood, time of day, and emotional tone of a scene based on concept art and storyboards.
- Look Development: Collaborate with the Shading and Texturing departments to ensure that materials react accurately and aesthetically to the light sources.
- Render Management: Optimize render layers and passes to ensure maximum efficiency without compromising visual quality.
- Compositing Integration: Work closely with the Compositing team (using Nuke) to ensure that rendered layers provide all the necessary depth and control for final polishing.
- Continuity: Maintain visual consistency across multiple shots within a sequence, ensuring that light direction and intensity remain uniform.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve bottlenecks in the rendering process, such as noise issues, flickering, or excessive render times.
- Collaboration: Actively participate in dailies and creative sessions, providing technical insights and artistic suggestions to elevate the project’s visual standard.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Artistic Foundation: A deep understanding of traditional lighting techniques, including 3-point lighting, rim lighting, and global illumination. A strong grasp of color theory and composition is essential.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Autodesk Maya and industry-standard render engines such as Arnold, V-Ray, or Redshift.
- Compositing Skills: Proficient in Foundry Nuke for multi-pass compositing and final shot integration.
- Experience: 4–8+ years of experience in a professional studio environment working on animated features, high-quality TV series, or AAA game cinematics.
- Attention to Detail: An uncompromising eye for detail regarding shadows, reflections, refractions, and volumetrics.
- Workflow Efficiency: Knowledge of Python or Mel scripting for pipeline automation is a significant advantage for senior roles.
Why Join Eplus Studio?
- Creative Excellence: Work on projects where lighting is not just a technical step, but a primary storytelling tool.
- Growth Environment: We encourage our artists to experiment with new techniques and tools, providing a platform for continuous professional development.
- Collaborative Spirit: Join a team that values your input. At Eplus, every artist is a contributor to the creative vision.
- Strategic Location: Our Mumbai studio is easily accessible and located in a vibrant area known for its creative energy and industry networking opportunities.
- Cutting-Edge Pipeline: Gain experience with modern rendering and lighting workflows in a studio that prioritizes quality.
