Position at DNEG

As an FX Supervisor at DNEG, you will lead a team of FX Artists to deliver cutting-edge, photorealistic simulations for high-end VFX projects. Responsible for both the artistic and technical direction of the FX department, you’ll work closely with the Producer, VFX Supervisor, Head of FX, and other department leads to ensure world-class results across a variety of complex simulations.

What You’ll Do

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the FX team, ensuring artistic and technical excellence.

  • Deliver high-quality simulations of natural phenomena such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam, explosions, particles, and voxel-based effects.

  • Oversee project management, balancing quality, timing, and resources.

  • Provide technical and artistic solutions to support the FX team in achieving creative goals.

  • Mentor, train, and motivate artists, maintaining an environment of growth and collaboration.

  • Collaborate across departments to ensure seamless integration of FX into the overall pipeline.

Must Have

  • 8+ years of experience as an FX TD with proven leadership experience as an FX Supervisor.

  • Expertise in Houdini and a deep understanding of simulation workflows.

  • Demonstrated experience creating high-quality, photoreal FX for live-action feature films.

  • Strong eye for detail, timing, and physical realism in simulations.

  • Problem-solving mindset with familiarity in pipeline workflows.

  • Experience in project management, balancing creative quality with deadlines.

  • Proven ability to lead, inspire, and mentor teams of FX Artists.

  • Strong artistic sensibility combined with technical proficiency.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of Python, HScript, or MEL.

  • Additional experience with Maya or other 3D software.

  • Broader experience in live-action FX work.

The Role

  • Permanent staff position.

  • Hybrid work model: at least 2 days per week in our Sydney studio.

  • Relocation support available for candidates outside Sydney.
