📍 Shot Finishing (Environment Generalist, Lighting & Comp) – Sydney, Australia
Position at DNEG

As an Environment Lead at DNEG, you will oversee the creation of high-quality digital environments for our feature film projects. Reporting directly to the VFX Supervisor, you’ll establish the look and standards for environments, ensuring creative goals are achieved while maintaining efficiency and technical excellence.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the Environment/Generalist team, defining best practices for workflow, render testing, optimization, and publishing assets into the pipeline.

  • Ensure seamless collaboration with other department supervisors, delivering assets smoothly across the production pipeline.

  • Partner with production to set schedules and milestones, ensuring deadlines are met without compromising quality.

  • Maintain artistic and technical standards, providing guidance, mentorship, and effective delegation across the team.

  • Translate concept art and references into photorealistic environments, ensuring accuracy and visual impact.

Must Have

  • Proven experience as an Environment Lead in high-end VFX feature films.

  • 7+ years of VFX experience, with a deep understanding of the full pipeline.

  • Strong leadership and motivational skills, with experience managing teams or departments.

  • Excellent communication skills with both creative and technical stakeholders.

  • Expertise across key VFX software: Maya, Mari, Nuke (plus knowledge of other industry tools).

  • High-level skills in modeling, texturing, layout, lighting, and digital matte painting.

  • Strong understanding of 3D and 2.5D VFX processes, compositing, and environment workflows.

  • Experience working with photogrammetry, HDRIs, lidar, and reference photography.

  • Knowledge of procedural city/terrain generation and scattering tools is a strong advantage.

  • Solid grounding in natural sciences (geology, geography, meteorology) and architectural design.

The Role

  • 2-year contract

  • Must have the right to work in Australia.

  • Hybrid model: minimum 2 days per week in our Sydney studio.
