Company Overview
Since its inception, Brown Bag Films has established itself as one of the most creatively driven studios in the industry. With multiple Emmy® and Academy Award® nominations, our work speaks for itself. We prioritize a culture of inclusivity, artistic growth, and technical innovation. As a Storyboard Revisionist at our Dublin Studio, you will be part of a team that values your creative input and provides the tools necessary to produce world-class animation.
Role Overview
The Storyboard Revisionist occupies a vital position within the production pipeline, bridging the gap between initial storyboards and the final animatic. Your primary objective is to deliver high-quality storyboard revision panels on schedule, ensuring that all creative notes from the Director and Post-Production departments are executed with precision.
You will be responsible for maintaining the visual continuity and stylistic integrity of the series. This role requires a blend of artistic flair, technical discipline, and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities
Creative Revision & Artistic Fidelity
Note Interpretation: Respond efficiently to creative notes and translate revisions during the storyboard review and animatic process. You must be able to take direction and pivot quickly based on feedback.
Stylistic Consistency: Adhere strictly to the established quality and style of the show. You are responsible for ensuring that all drawings remain “on-model” and consistent with the project’s visual language.
Visual Storytelling: Interpret scripts and translate narrative beats into visual forms that enhance the storytelling, focusing on clarity of action and emotional resonance.
Technical Execution & Pipeline Support
Deliverables: Undertake revisions and diligently update the revisions tracker to ensure the production team has real-time visibility into progress.
Folder Management: Organize and update storyboard production folders regularly, ensuring that all assets are easily accessible and correctly versioned.
Reference Utilization: Proactively ensure all required reference material—such as character sheets, background designs, and props—is available and utilized for every panel.
Time Bidding: Provide accurate time bids for assigned tasks to assist the production team in maintaining a realistic and efficient schedule.
Communication & Collaboration
Department Liaison: Maintain regular, proactive communication with the Director and Post-Production teams to provide updates on progress and upcoming delivery deadlines.
Cross-Departmental Coordination: Communicate with the Previz department as necessary to ensure a smooth transition of storyboards into the 3D environment.
Approval Logistics: Issue clear approval communications to the Director and Post-Production departments once revisions are finalized.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Professional Track Record: A background in producing storyboard revisions on several previous productions. We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate a history of successful deliveries.
Industry Experience: A strong understanding of the animation production schedule and the critical nature of deadlines within a professional studio environment.
Artistic Foundation: A good understanding of acting and animation posing, alongside a solid grasp of cinematography, staging, and composition.
Collaborative Spirit: A proven track record of working effectively with production teams and Directors.
Legal Requirement: Candidates must possess the right to work in Ireland for the duration of the 9–12 month contract.
Technical Skills & Competencies
Drawing Proficiency: Excellent drawing skills with the ability to maintain high quality even when working under tight deadlines.
Software Mastery: Proficiency in industry-standard digital software is mandatory, specifically Storyboard Pro and Adobe Photoshop.
3D Integration: Experience with 3D animation pipelines is highly desirable, as it aids in understanding how storyboards translate to a CG environment.
Problem Solving: The ability to provide feedback to Production regarding recurring issues in board deliveries and assist in identifying practical solutions.
Education: An Animation Qualification is considered a significant advantage.
Leadership & Professionalism Expectations
While this is a revisionist role, we value professionals who take ownership of their craft. You are expected to:
Be proactive in improving current studio practices and revision workflows.
Demonstrate a high level of self-management and the ability to multi-task across different episodes or sequences.
Act as a positive influence within the team, fostering a culture of mutual respect and creative excellence.
Benefits & Perks
Competitive Compensation: A salary range of €33,000 to €36,000, commensurate with experience.
Hybrid Working Model: Benefit from a flexible working arrangement that combines the focus of home-based work with the collaborative atmosphere of our Dublin studio (2 days per week).
Creative Growth: Opportunities to work on world-class IP and learn from some of the best directors and artists in the animation industry.
Dublin Studio Life: Work in the heart of Dublin’s creative community in a studio that genuinely puts its people first.
