Brown Bag Films, one of the world’s most exciting and creatively driven animation studios, is seeking a visionary CG Supervisor to join our flagship studio in Dublin. This role is a pivotal leadership position designed for a technical expert who thrives at the intersection of artistic excellence and pipeline efficiency.

At Brown Bag Films, our motto is “We Love Animation™.” We don’t just say it; we live it by placing our artists at the center of every decision. If you are a seasoned CG leader who can navigate the complexities of long-format production while mentoring a world-class team, we want to hear from you.

Job Overview

  • Company Name: Brown Bag Films
  • Vacancy Name: CG Supervisor
  • Salary Range: €70,000 – €85,085.44 (Commensurate with experience)
  • Job Type: Full-time, 3-Month Fixed-Term Contract
  • Office Location: Dublin, Ireland
  • Work Model: Hybrid (Minimum 2 days per week in-studio)
  • Eligibility: Must have the right to work in Ireland (EU Candidates) 🇪🇺

The Role: Leading the Vision

The CG Supervisor is the bridge between the creative dream and technical reality. You will be responsible for the end-to-end implementation of the studio’s CG workflows on designated projects. Your primary goal is to ensure that every frame meets the high-quality standards Brown Bag Films is known for, while strictly adhering to the Director’s vision, production assumptions, and the project schedule.

In this role, you aren’t just a manager; you are a problem-solver and a strategist. You will oversee the CG crew—including our valued outsource partners—to ensure a seamless delivery process from initial asset creation through to final shot production.

Detailed Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Team Management

  • Team Direction: Lead the internal CG crew and external outsource partners, providing clear technical guidance and performance feedback.

  • Collaboration: Act as the primary liaison between the VFX Supervisor and specific Department Supervisors (Modeling, Rigging, Lighting, etc.) to ensure the pipeline is implemented effectively across the project.

  • Communication: Facilitate transparent communication between Directors, Producers, and the CG team. You are the “translator” who ensures technical challenges are understood by creative stakeholders and vice versa.

2. Technical Strategy & Production Planning

  • Asset Management: Define the most efficient production plan for the creation of high-quality CG assets, ensuring they are optimized for both performance and aesthetic appeal.

  • Pipeline Optimization: Identify technical bottlenecks early in the production cycle. You will be expected to design and implement creative solutions that keep the wheels of production turning without sacrificing quality.

  • Direction: Provide technical leadership for both the foundational asset build and the specific requirements of individual episodes.

3. Creative Alignment & Quality Control

  • Look Development: Partner closely with Project Directors to ensure the CG output perfectly mirrors the desired “look” and feel of the project.

  • Assumption Monitoring: Keep a close eye on production assumptions. If technical or creative demands begin to breach the agreed-upon scope, you will advise stakeholders and recommend viable solutions to bring the project back on track.

  • Scheduling: Work hand-in-hand with the Producer and Production Manager to maintain a realistic and efficient project schedule.

Comprehensive Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must possess a blend of high-level technical mastery and sophisticated leadership skills. We are looking for a veteran of the animation industry who understands the nuances of long-format storytelling.

Core Knowledge & Experience

  • Pipeline Mastery: A thorough, deep-seated understanding of CG animation pipelines. You should be intimately familiar with every discipline, including modeling, rigging, lighting, rendering, and VFX.

  • Proven Track Record: You must have prior experience as a CG Supervisor or Department Supervisor on a feature film or a long-format animated series.

  • Production Lifecycle: Extensive experience in both CG asset creation and shot production is essential.

Technical Proficiencies

The Dublin studio utilizes a high-end technical stack. Proficiency in the following tools is required:

  • Primary Software: Expert-level knowledge of Autodesk Maya.

  • Supporting Suite: Strong technical expertise in Photoshop, Nuke, Substance Painter (or Mari), Z-brush, and Houdini (or After Effects).

  • Management Tools: High proficiency in asset tracking software, specifically Autodesk’s Shotgun (ShotGrid).

  • Review Tools: Strong working knowledge of the ‘RV’ media player for dailies and reviews.

Why Brown Bag Films?

Dublin is the heart of our creative operations, and our studio is a hub of innovation and passion. While this is a 3-month fixed-term contract, it offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of the animation industry with a team that has earned numerous Emmy and Academy Award nominations.

We value the “hybrid” experience—we believe the best creative sparks often happen in person, which is why we ask for a minimum of two days in our Dublin office. This allows for real-time collaboration and the fostering of a community that truly loves what they do.
