Detailed Job Responsibilities As a Compositor at Atomic Arts, you will be responsible for the final look of shots, ensuring they meet the rigorous quality standards of the world’s leading film studios. 1. Technical Analysis & Shot Execution Brief Interpretation: Analyze VFX briefs and reference edits to evaluate the technical and creative requirements of each shot. Plate Manipulation: Perform complex retimes of plates to match reference edits precisely. Advanced Keying: Handle simple to highly complex green/blue screen extractions. You must demonstrate mastery over various keying methodologies, including advanced spill suppression and seamless edge blending. 2. Integration & Photorealism Multi-Pass Compositing: Perform photorealistic integration of multiple 3D render passes (Beauty, Specular, AO, Z-Depth, etc.) into live-action plates. 2D Element Integration: Seamlessly blend elements such as fire, smoke, snow, bullet hits, and muzzle flashes into plates, maintaining consistent lighting and perspective. Color Science: Apply excellent knowledge of Color Correction (CC) and Grading to ensure all elements exist within the same visual space. 3. Advanced Nuke Techniques Tracking & Warping: Utilize 2D tracking, Planar tracking (Mocha/Nuke), and Camera Tracking for environment extensions. 3D Projections: Execute complex 3D projections and Nuke Relighting to enhance the interaction between CG and live-action. Detail Management: Oversee Grain Management (matching plate grain) and Black Level matching to ensure “invisible” integration. 4. Leadership & Quality Control (Senior Specific) Look Development: Establish the “Key Look” for specific sequences, providing a template for Mid and Junior artists. Collaboration: Work closely with the Compositing Supervisor and Lead to refine technical approaches. Script Integrity: Maintain highly organized Nuke scripts and perform rigorous Self-QC before submitting work for review. Essential Skills & Qualifications We are looking for artists who combine technical “under-the-hood” knowledge with a refined artistic sensibility. Production Experience: A minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in live-action compositing for film or high-end TV. Software Fluency: In-depth working knowledge of Foundry Nuke. The “Eye”: A strong eye for detail, composition, color, and lighting. You should intuitively understand how light behaves in the real world. Photography Knowledge: A background in photography or practical lighting is highly advantageous, helping you understand lens artifacts and depth of field. Bonus Skills: * Experience with Deep Compositing pipelines. Previous experience in BG Prep and Roto (showing a foundational understanding of the pipeline).
