4A Games is searching for an exceptional and experienced Principal Hard Surface / Weapon Artist to define the visual fidelity of our weapons and mechanical props for a new AAA IP. You will be a key leader, setting the visual benchmark and delivering state-of-the-art assets that enhance both the gameplay experience and visual storytelling.
🌟 Principal Leadership & Responsibilities
As a Principal Artist, you will lead the charge in asset creation while guiding the team:
- Benchmark Creation: Create visually striking, state-of-the-art, and realistic 3D weapons, gear, and mechanical assets—from initial concept translation to final implementation in the game engine.
- Visual Direction: In close collaboration with the Art Director, assist in defining and consistently upholding the visual style and quality standards for all weapon and hard surface art.
- Mentorship & Guidance: Act as a mentor, supporting the hard surface art team by providing expert feedback, technical guidance, and defining best practices for asset creation and pipeline efficiency.
- Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Partner with Concept Artists, Designers, Animators, and Tech Artists to ensure all assets meet rigorous standards for visual consistency, animation functionality, and performance budgets.
- Creative Contribution: Contribute creatively to weapon and prop design, offering innovative ideas and expert know-how, particularly regarding First-Person (FP) view design requirements.
✅ Required Expertise & Technical Mastery

| Experience | 6+ years of specialized experience in high-quality weapon or hard surface asset creation for games. |
| Modeling Mastery | Exceptional understanding of form, shape, structure, silhouette, and composition. |
| High-Poly Tools | Mastery of 3D modeling software, with a strong preference for candidates knowledgeable in Fusion 360 for high-poly work. |
| Texturing & Materials | Full understanding of PBR workflows and knowledge of material properties, with meticulous work in texturing (e.g., Substance 3D). |
| Baking & UVs | Full understanding of the UV and normal map creation pipeline, including tools like RizomUV and Marmoset Toolbag. |
| Detail & Design | Strong eye for realistic detail and visual storytelling, combined with expert knowledge of real-world weapon and mechanical design. |
| Sculpting | Proficiency in digital sculpting for detail and damage (e.g., ZBrush). |
| Soft Skills | Ability and willingness to work collaboratively in a team, excellent problem-solving skills, high attention to detail, and proficiency in English. |
